Creative movement offers wonderful opportunities for young children to make independent choices and express their thoughts, feelings and ideas. Touch and movement are our earliest senses and provide learning experiences which have a huge influence on development and wellbeing.
This workshop is for early years practitioners and creatives wishing to deliver playful movement encounters for children in their early years. During this session we will meet at the level of the child to roll, slide, creep and crawl, exploring how low-level play embodies essential movement patterns which support development from birth onwards. We’ll unpack Schema behaviours such as rotation & orientation, gaining insight into the ways children learn and express their ideas, discovering how these shape physical tasks and games. I’ll share some favourite movement activities gathered over the years and invite you to create your own. We’ll explore how props, cardboard boxes and a ‘loose parts’ environment encourage imaginative play and can inspire creative processes with young children and families. There will be time for collaboration and creative response through group making & sharing, with the opportunity to reflect & discuss. Workshop materials and the attitude of delivery will be inclusive and respectful to the needs of participants. With well-being at the heart of this practice, during this workshop you’ll gain increased confidence, an enhanced toolbox and fresh perspectives into movement-making with the early years.
